Fellowship Camp 2014 - A Testimony by Sephra Thomas
The FOCUS Youth and MGOCSM of St. Thomas Orthodox Cathedral gathered together on May 24-25 for their second Annual Fellowship Camp. The Fellowship Camp was started last year in the effort of creating stronger bonds between our youth. Led by our Assistant Vicar, Rev. Fr. Joel Mathew, a group of 25 young people traveled to Corpus Christi and spent the weekend at the St. Moses and St.Mary Abbey Monastery, where they held evening prayers and celebrated Holy Qurbana. The group consisted of both college and post-college students.
The underlying message delivered by Joel Achen during the bible study was salvation through faith and works. One must have faith in God, and in the fact that God sent His son to die on the cross for the absolution of our sins. It is through the pure and perfect realization and acceptance of this faith that good works come forth. This lesson was epitomized through the discipline and kindness shown by the monks towards the group.
The group would like to thank St. Moses and St. Mary Abbey Monastery for opening up their doors and showing the group kindness. They would also like to thank the families of Mr. Mathew Thomas (Mikey) and Mr. George Thamaravelil who are members of the Church for openingup their homes to this group.
